North Augusta, South Carolina
North Augusta, located on the north bank of the Savannah River, is also part of the Augusta, Georgia metro area. The region is a center for biotechnology, military and medicine, which are all primary supporters of the local economy. Major industries in the area consist of nuclear defense materials, textiles, cotton products, glass and aluminum. Additionally, there are 70 manufacturing firms within the county which provide employment to approximately 24,000 residents. Therefore, they too have an important and active role in stabilizing the economy in North Augusta.
Education for all age groups is imperative and in North Augusta education is also a priority. The Aiken County School District ranks 10th highest in the state for performance. As part of the Aiken School District, North Augusta offers four elementary schools, two middle schools and 2 high schools for school aged children. There are also several smaller religious based schools in the area along with a few private schools across the river in Augusta. Also, in Augusta college bound students have access to six institutions, including specific colleges for military, technology and health services.
North Augusta landscape is primarily flat with a few rolling hills on the terrain. The climate is humid subtropical, which provides long warm summers with an abundance of precipitation. Although summer temperatures can easily rise above 100 degrees, the average highs are in the low 90′s. The brief and mild winters bring relief from the warmth with temperatures dropping into the high 60′s. Snow flurries commonly occur during the winter months, but accumulation is rare.
